Wow.

Two words spring to mind about the way this all works, and they're kind of surprising given it's a collaboration:

"Delicate Precision". Although I'd hardly describe the events themselves as "delicate", the way they are constructed and arranged throughout the story strike me as fitting those two words so well - not to mention the mental/emotional events and storyline doing so. Something of a masterpiece! Congrats to both of you on it.

One bit in particular deeply and darkly amused me, thinking about the ways in which S/M gets viewed from the outside:

Some wanted punishment, deeming themselves unworthy and seeking absolution. Some craved sensation, longing for any touch from any mech they desired, however harsh. Some wanted intensity, needing pain because they'd rendered themselves immune to other pleasure.

And some simply craved it because they did, because some deep need in them would not let them go long without. Some felt the rhythm of power moving within them, as much a part of themselves as electricity racing through their circuitry.

Very neat!
