Snowflake Challenge Day 5
Day 1 is here.
Day 2 is here.
Days 3 and 4 were "go meet someone" or "go comment", so uh... things happened?
Day 5
In your own space, share something non-fannish you are passionate about with your fannish friends. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Wow, this makes me uncomfortable. Not because I don't have hobbies, but because this is my fandom journal and somehow talking about other stuff feels wrong to me.
I play a lot of Magic: the Gathering. (If anyone has the online version, look me up! I'm vicious beastie there, and I'd love a game, though I play weird formats.) This feels cheatishly fannish though because it's such a nerdy thing, and because I have even written fic for it...
In what feels like a previous life I studied philosophy. I still like a lot of it, though I only dip my toes in when I want to nowadays. This is also kinda cheaty because I often reread philosophy as a worldbuilding aid in my TF fic. (Mainly, lots of Nietzsche and a bit of Foucault, to try and create not only an interesting Decepticon culture but also internally consistent and rich personal moral codes and cultural ethics that are driven by moral standards very different from the standard but more than just LOL BAD GUIIIIIIZ. Thus Spake Zarathustra is my Decepticon Bible.)
I love the great despisers, because they are the great adorers, and arrows of longing for the other shore.

I think this is really awesome, to be honest.

I can't even begin to say how happy that makes me. I'm so glad you appreciate and get something out of it.

Be wary of his antisemitism though. I tolerate it frowningly because I think he is mostly using it to ground antichristian views by talking about what he sees (rightly or wrongly) as their roots in earlier traditions. His critiques of Christianity are him critiquing (okay, blasting violently) his own faith tradition, and I think everyone gets to do that. But it is a bit creepy.

My minor is in Philosophy! I love it and the thinking but life does not give me much time for it. I miss school for the ability to just learn. I will have to check Zarathustra out. Thank you!
